With the rapid development of electronic technology, especially the emergence of large-scale integrated circuits and the emergence of the microcomputer, there has been a qualitative leap in modern scientific research. And the emergence of the embedded micro-controller technology has brought a new technological revolution in the field of modern industry. The most obvious advantage of the embedded micro-controller system is that can be embedded into any micro-or small-scale apparatus, equipment.Embedded system is mainly composed of two parts, hardware and software. The core of the system's hardware is S3C2440 development board. S3C2440 microprocessor is a low-power, highly integrated microprocessor, using 289-pin FBGA package, including the ARM920T core. The core of the system's software is embedded linux operating system. It is an operating system which is the product of cutting the linux operating system. it can run in the embedded computer system. Embedded linux operating system has many featuers, such as transplant software easily, open source, supported by many application software.The paper introduced the status and development trend of embedded technology. It raises the overall program of image acquisition system which is based on embedded technology. it includes the establishment of hardware platform, the transplant of the embedded operating system, the establishment of cross-compiler environment, as well as the establishment of development platform used in embedded software.In terms of embedded system's hardware, it mainly introduced the structure and features of ARM9 processor, as well as the choice principles of hardware platform.In software development platform of embedded system, it mainly introduced the characteristics and applications of embedded Linux system, and how to migrate it to development board, as well as the development process of embedded software.
