Research On The Usability Improvement Of The Guangzhou Digital Museum Website

The Digital Museum attract a wide range of internet audiences,including students,public,enthusiasts and academics,offers the convenience to enjoy the works of art and learn different history&culture.However,due to the lack of usability guidelines during construction,the Digital Museum web sites generally have a lot of usability issues.Usability research is an important branch in human-computer field.It is important to study the usability of the Digital Museum web sites.After reviewing the usability of the Digital Museum web sites related research,we evaluate the Guangzhou Digital Museum website with heuristic evaluation and user testing in this paper.After that,sixty one usability issues have been found and six aspects of usability improvement suggestions was raised.In the heuristic evaluation,the expert reviewers used the ten usability heuristic applicable to the Digital Museum web sites proposed in this paper as indicators,and found 38 usability issues,which accounted for 75%of the total.In the user testing,an un-moderated remote usability testing method was implemented.The 30 users who completed the test found 41 usability issues,which accounted for 80%of the total.The usability heuristic applicable to the Digital Museum web sites and the usability improvement suggestions made for the Guangzhou Digital Museum website proposed in this paper are also useful for the construction of other Digital Museum web sites.
