Biometric technology is based on the body's own inherent physical characteristics or behavioral characteristics for identification. Compared with the traditional identification methods, biometrics identification technology does not exist to bring inconvenience, lost, forgotten and so on. Iris recognition for its high accuracy, good stability, high-unique, non-contact features such as an emerging biometric technology to make it at home and abroad researchers attention. In recent years, the theory of Iris recognition has made rapid development, so far the iris recognition system has been put into commercial applications, but most such systems need to run with PC as a platform and the lack of flexibility. However, embedded applications of iris recognition technology is moving toward an inevitable trend of the practical application. This paper proposes a embedded iris recognition system using DSP and ARM. The system consists of six modules: power management and control, the iris image acquisition, iris image processing (DSP), memory (SDRAM and FLASH), Human-Computer Interaction (ARM), as well as part of data transfer (USB ).In the hardware design the paper introduce the knowledge of DSP chip and related modules ,and introduces design and debug of the hardware system. In software design, this paper introduces development and debugging experience of software using CCS, and how to write a bootloader to bootstrap system. Finally the paper describes how to develop a human-computer interface using WINCE base on ARM hardware. Finally, the paper makes a brief description on the future direction of the work of the system.
