As the next generation optical network which is IP traffics oriented, the OPS network will transport internet traffics over optical layer directly, IP packets in the network will be transmitted in optical domain. The OPS network solves many problems in electrical switching.Network management system can provide a good information source for an administrator. It can reduce the network emergency of failture, shorten the time of network recovery and increase profit to the largest extent. With demands of network performance becoming higher and higher, users can not be satisfied with the services if there was not an efficient network management system. Network management technology now is one of the most important technologies in the network operation. Its importance in the OPS network is recognized by more and more people. So it is very neccesary to design a stable and efficient network management system for OPS network. This thesis introduces the design and implementation of management system in the OPS network. The system includes three parts: the network management module in the core node, the agent and the manager. Through RS232 interface, the agent can monitor local components, and through SNMP Protocol, the manager exchanges information with the agent, by which it achieves remote management. The thesis makes a thorough analysis on the overall OPS network management system, and furthermore shows the design and implementation of every part. The network management module in the core node is implemented using FPGA, which is essential for the system operating properly. The agent operates in Linux environment, which is able to exchange SNMP message with the manager. The manager operates in Windows environment, which provides graphical user interface and supports the functions including parameter configuration, performance monitoring and emergency detection. The system can make OPS network operate stably and efficiently.
