Optical Burst Switch (OBS) is a new optical network switching schema. It is one of the key technologies to DWDM era. As a newly proposed switch architecture and protocol, research of realizing an OBS system is still far from mature.This paper focus on (hardware) system design of OBS Core Router Control Card (use OBS Core Control instead). Current research reports shows worldwide Core Control designs are tending to use FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) as basic method. FPGA is programmable digital chip with high speed, high flexibility and high volume, therefore, is a best choice for digital system prototype development. Meanwhile, developing a digital system on FPGA is still very complicated work.This paper proposes a Core Control design which based on a System on a Programmable Chip (FPGA Chip). This design includes design of a FPGA based Core Control System, which can achieve communication channels transmit and receive, packet storage etc. Then we implant an on chip system to replace part of complex digital design, which can simplify the system design. The application of a SOPC can achieve routing and scheduling by both software programming and hardware acceleration.This paper includes works as follows:1. We do functional modules division of Core Control, do paper research and technology evaluation, and then propose a proper FPGA based architecture of Core Control.2.
