Terahertz (THz) frequencies refer to the electromagnetic wave with a frequency range of 0.1THz to 10THz (wavelength range of 3000μm to 30μm), terahertz science and technology is a very complex frontier discipline. In the past 20 years, the terahertz science and technology has made a great development with the progress of THz generation mechanism, detection technology and application technology.The application of THz technology can not be separated from the development of THz radiation sources and THz detection technology; it also needs the development of THz devices. Substrate integrated waveguide or SIW is a quasi-waveguide structure, which can be realized on PCB and LTCC process and has the potential to replace traditional rectangular waveguide. In contrast with conventional waveguide structure, it takes the advantages of low profile, easy to fabricate and easy to be integrated with other integrated components etc. A slot array antenna can be realized by etching slots on the surface of a SIW. The Photonic Crystal structure can also be applied in the THz region, this application is conducive to the development of terahertz technology.In this thesis, the transmission characteristics of the SIW slot were thoroughly analyzed. The application of resonant rectangular waveguide slot antenna design theory were employed to design uniform and Diesendorf - Chebyshev distribution SIW slot arrays. Variations of different design parameters on antenna performance were discussed. In addition, an omnidirectional SIW slot array antenna was designed using image theory, which was validated by both software simulation. All these devices designed have been simulated and optimized by the electromagnetic simulation tools, so that the devices could achieve optimal quality of transmission or filtering. The antenna system has a good characteristic. Research results are potential valuable for the development of devices in THz region.
