| Along with the rapid development of Internet technology, the new communication method using real-time, interactive, multi-media forms information has become the inevitable trend of development in the future, the Internet multimedia applications has good prospects on the development. The traditional mode on audio and video playback, playing before downloading to the local, can't meet the needs of the people for the network; the demands on the client system absented from storage of the media have been increasing. VOD (video on demand) system, subverting the traditional non-interactive mode, has been widely used in distance education, telemedicine and home entertainment and other fields. VOD, as a typical application of streaming media technology, is drawing people's concern.This thesis depicts embedded design and implementation of VOD system from point of the application.Firstly, the character of streaming media, common streaming media encoding and streaming technology are analysed. The paper give details of encoding format and specific applications of streaming media, then clarify a variety of protocol related to video-on-demand system, especially RTSP protocol.Secondly, the whole system architecture and the various components of the system are analysed. In order to support the media format well, we have corresponding decoders optimized in assemble language, then detailed and focused specific audio and video decoding process.In the next step, the requirements of VOD server, the specific installation and configuration of the server are given. The different ways of connection between server and client are studied.To emphasize the difficult faced in the process, many questions are collected in a independent section. The question including network and local factor would be focused here.Lastly, some test items and result would be depicted. |
