ITS(Intelligent Transportation Systems)is an important developing direction in the traffic or transportation technology and management in this century.The LPRS(License Plate Recognition System) is one of the most important part of ITS.LPRS can be widly used in park management,freeway ETC(Electronic Toll Collection), vehicle peccancy surveillance and so on.Usually,LPRS can be realized in the below resolvents.The first way is that LPRS is designed based on PC. All of the recognize algorithm run in PC. Another way is the embedded LPRS which is based on high quality DSP and other chips.Both of them are used in different circumstance and for different purpose.In this paper, an embedded LPRS based on multiple DSPs and FPGA is proposed.It takes full advantage of powerful computing ability of TI's C6000 Series DSP, as well as the flexible logic control technology of FPGA, to achieve high-speed operation of the system.As a result,a high speed embedded LPRS is realized successfully.The main work in this program is described as follows:1: Hardware research and designment: Well design the system scheme with partners.Layout and route the PCB with double DSPs .Some of jointing work is also done in this program.Realize the hardware system with multiple DSP,FPGA,A/D,power chip,memery chip and so on.Complete the debug work at last.2: Software research and designment: Design and realize the total FPGA logic control program including image data acquirement,storage,transmission and so on.Participate in and realize some of DSP/BIOS program and complete the algorithm transplant.Now all the debug work have been completed and the embedded LPRS with multiple DSPs can well work in the real circumstance.Real time image acquirement and recognition have good performance. The system has characteristics of high speed, small size, and low power consumption.It's a good hardware system for further high quality LPR algorithm development.
