Based On Embedded License Plate Recognition System

Modern society has already entered into the information age. Along with the development of computer technology and communication technology, the level of information processing automation improved continuously and it has been widely used in various fields of social life. With the improvement of living standards, increasing number of private cars and road construction, the direction of traffic management system development towards intelligent transportation systems. Vehicle license plate recognition technology plays an important role. It's the core of intelligent transportation systems. It extracts images from a license plate image, segments character images automatic in order to identify the characters correctly and then identify vehicles.This paper based on the NIOSⅡSOPC technology embedded processors, using QuartusⅡ, SOPC Builder and Matlab development tools, create and configure the NIOSⅡsoft-core processor, generate the core of the system hardware and software development kits, in addition completed the hardware circuit commissioning; In the system software design, the algorithm of vehicle license plate recognition process are analyzed and compared, in this design, C language was used to design algorithm program which is fit for this system; The system can work well with different images which obtained in a different light and different background.Algorithms and Multiple interface function of the system will be implemented on one FPGA chip, the features of this system are hardware and software reconfigurable, programming flexibility and so on. Experimental results show that the system is stable and can meet the requirements of image processing work environment, and it also provides a good hardware platform for further development.
