With the constant development of urban traffic and transportation,its existing means cannot meet the demand of traffic and transportation management and service.An intellectual transportation system,a new kind of informationized,intellectualized,and socialized modern traffic system,is rapidly developed by using advanced technology such as electronic, information,communication technology and by transforming the traditional traffic transportation and management system.As the kernel of the intellectual transportation system,the vehicle supervising system has become the research hotspot.The vehicle supervising system is researched starting off in 1960s.The purpose of study is to find a solution for the heavy traffic issues in big cities that caused by the civilization of automobiles.Nowadays,the vehicle supervising system is composed of Global Positioning System,modern mobile communication and Geographic Information System technology.It is not only the essential part of intellectual transportation system,but also providing guard against theft,guard against highjack,medical emergence and so on.However,the communication part of the vehicle supervision is based on GSM-SMS which can not meet real-time requirements.The direction of the vehicle supervising system's development is using GPRS technology that has high speed of 171.2kbs to replace the GSM part.After that,the vehicle supervising system will meet real-time requirements.Based on ARM and Linux operating system,by using GPS,GPRS and embedded technology,this paper designs a vehicle terminal of supervision system with powerful function in which ARM9 as the core part is adopted.The embedded vehicle terminal of supervision is the important part of the vehicle supervising system.The vehicle terminal of supervision system is mainly composed of GPS positioning module,ARM monitoring terminal and GPRS communications module.The GPS positioning module is to receive positioning signals from the GPS satellites,and to transmit to the ARM monitoring terminal.After parsing the data,the ARM monitoring terminal will match the location information with the electronic map and the information will be displayed on LCD of the monitoring terminal.The monitoring terminal regularly sends the GPS positioning data to the background control center through the GPRS module to achieve real-time supervision,while the GPRS module also receive the instructions sent from the background control center to control the vehicle terminal's work to achieve specific terminal functions.At first,the constitution,function and the key technology of the vehicle supervising system was analyzed.And then the hardware design and realization of the embedded vehicle terminal of supervision was introduced.At last,the application software was completed. The software realization has applied the modular structure and multithreading strategy,which realized the high speed,multi-channel data acquisition.The experimental results have shown that the embedded vehicle terminal of supervision based on ARM and Linux operating system has high precision of orientation,good real time operation and has realized the basic function and satisfies the practical requirements.
