Television is one of the most important means of mass media. And nowadays it increasingly shows the trend of classification. The audience's spontaneous choice and television workers'inadvertent meeting objectively contribute to the formation of classification, which is worth our discussion and thinking. This paper is to study the spreading of television with cultural explanation as a starting point, and it focuses on multi-cultural characteristics and diverse attributes of the classification trend in the development of contemporary Chinese television, with the mass and the classification as benchmark, specific television programs as examples,the relationship between television and its audience as the breakthrough point, also combined with the current conditions of the Chinese audience.At the same time the author points out that classification will be a long-term stage, and provides some ideas and suggestions for Chinese TV people about how to better use classification to lead the audience and to establish mainstream culture.
