The interference and fading in a wireless communication channel reduce the reliability of the communication systems. And the pre-processing can improve the signal to noise ratio, and reduce the error rate. Error control coding technology is ofen used to detect and correct the information transmission error due to channel errors, and to improve the reliability of the signal transmission. The main point of the study of error control coding is to find a near Shannon Limit coding and decoding method under the premise of low decoding of complexity. Turbo product code is not only has low decoding complexity and small decoding delay, but also inherited the Turbo codes's advantage of closing to the Shannon limit. In other words, it still has low error rate at low signal to noise ratio. Therefore, Turbo product code has become a hot researching area of error control coding.First of all, this paper pointed out the application aera of the error-correcting coding and its development history. Then it compared the performance of the Turbo product codes and other error-correcting coding. Based on the principle of the TPC, the iterative decoding for it has been discussed, with a typical Chase iterative decoding algorithm for the representative, and simulated in MATLAB 7.0 environment. Then FPGA chip was put forward to achieve the structure design of the TPC codes. This paper described the thinking part of some modules, and used the Altera's Quartus- II 6.0 to simulate. The sub-code code-type adopted the truncated cyclic code (22,16) that plus a parity bit. In real system, both the encoding and decoding use the AHA4501 chip, which is the first TPC encoding/decoding chip of AHA Corporation. According to the timing specifications given by the chip guide, this paper completed the initialization of the chip. At last , the paper concluded the results of the study, and concluded the areas to be improved. Some aspects of coding and its developing trend are also considered.
