The tool presetting and measuring system is based on computer vision measurement. It is an instrument inspecting the geometry parameters of tools that integrates applied optics, electronic technology, computer technology and precision measurement technology. It can change these geometry parameters into coordinates in the NCM (Numerical Control Machine) and processing center system. The data base of the tools are formed automatically, and be applied to the high precision tool presetting in the numerical processing. Our country's tool presetting and measuring instruments still use optical projection aiming and the measurement is carried out by human sight, which brings much subjective error; at the same time, the measuring is time consuming. Current system can't cater to the high precision, high efficiency mechanic procession. However, the tool presetting and measuring instruments based on computer vision in foreign country have achieved high precision and automation.The joint development team of our collage and enterprise developed the technology tool parameters measurement system based on image processing. This paper mainly studied the image measurement technology in the treatment of geometric parameters of tool detection system. The image intake unit used to use CCD camera, the objectives of the video signal transmission through a standard interface to the image processing unit, and then use computers and other hardware platforms to bring about various digital image algorithm, to measure the target size parameter, and then measuring the results of storage, display or print, thus completing the task of measuring pre-set.The development of this project includes:1. Determine the digital image tool measuring machine, including the overall system architecture, hardware design and software development.2. Determine the digital image processing algorithms, including image preprocessing, contour tracking and Sub-pixel edge detection. Contour tracking and sub-pixel edge detection algorithm play a crucial role in the selection of the measurement precision cutting tools.3. The determination of Sub-pixel edge location algorithm 4. Specific calculation method of geometric parameters of tool, including the diameter and length of the tools and so on.5. Using Visual C + + to develop the digital image tool measurement software to achieve the achieve real-time display of the tool's image.6. Determine the error source of the measurement system , and analyze the accuracy of the actual measurement result in theory .
