Detection technique based on machine vision has been studied in depth in foreign countries, and it draws more and more attention in China. This paper describes the application of machine vision measurement technology in the tool presetter.Digital image geometric data measurement system mainly consists of optical system, image acquisition system, image processing module and measurement module, motion control module and so on. In this system, image processing module and measurement module relates to the measurement accuracy and speed. It is the core of the entire system, and the focus of this paper too. The system acquires the digital image of tool by area-array CCD and image acquisition cards, and inputs it to computer, finally, acquires geometric data of tool after image processing by computer software.This paper analyzes the composition of machine vision measuring system, analysis and studies the performance parameters of various hardwares and their options, and then selects the appropriate hardware according to the subject need. This paper focuses on:CCD camera calibration method and proposes an improved method; tool digital image preprocessing, including image binarization, the median filtering, edge detection; sub-pixel edge positioning and tool geometry parameters calculation. And in these parts, the most important one is sub-pixel edge positioning. In this paper, two kinds of sub-pixel edge positioning methods are introduced in detail, namely, interpolation and fitting.Finally, the image processing software of this system is made up based on Delphi7.0 software platform, and implements the image processing algorithms and tool geometry parameters calculation mentioned above basically.
