Tool presetter integrated with optical, mechanical and electrical, is a set ofprecision instrumentation, which in modern production systems can effectivelyimprove the productivity and machining accuracy of the CNC equipment. But thedomestic tool presetter using optical projection, relying on observation andmeasurement of the human eyes, equips with big subjective errors and lowmeasurement speed. For this reason, the paper points out that the tool measurementsoftware has the unique advantages base on the image measurement, and the design ofthe system is developed.Image measurement system is composed of mechanical device, image capture,lighting equipment, software and computer systems, among which the core of imagemeasurement is the software system and also the research focus of this paper.Software system is related to measurement accuracy and speed of the entire system.The principle is that the system uses the area-array CCD camera collecting toolimage, through the 1394 interface transferring to the computer, the inspection of toolparameters completed by the image measurement software, then the final print resultssaved and outputted.The subject belongs to the development projects, which is jointed withMechanical Engineering and Automation and XinYuan High-Tech center of NorthUniversity of China. On the basis of referencing the abundant literature and trackingsimilar products at home and abroad, this paper has researched and completed thefollowing work:(1) The algorithm of the image measurement system is determined, includingimage pre-processing, sub-pixel edge detection, edge extraction, in which the choiceof sub-pixel edge detection and edge extraction algorithm play a key role on the tool fast and accurate measurement.(2) The specific detection methods of the tool Geometric parameters are studied,including the tool radius, tip angle and so on.(3) The paper research on the camera calibration. According to the theory ofmeasurement calibration, with its own characteristics the camera is calibrated, thehigh-precision extraction of target corner points is studied, and the preliminarycalibration experiments is carried on.(4) The article using Delphi to write image measuring software system, theimage acquisition, real-time display, processing, and the geometric parametersmeasurement of the tool are achieved.(5) The various error sources in the measurement system are determined. And theactual measurement results are analyzed theoretically in order to further enhance themeasurement accuracy.
