After entering into the WTO, the competition between service providers in China has intensified. The quality of network has become a critical factor for service providers. In the future network optimization will become a very important task. At present, service providers mainly concern about how to dig the maximum potential of present network by optimizing.The goal of network optimization is to improve and maintain network quality. Network quality is affected by various factors. Current network optimization extended to every section including market forecasting, network planning, network engineering and network implementing.In this paper, a study of the principle of the GSM system is presented first. Then the problems which are outstanding in ChengDu GSM network are searched for and analyzed. After that a wireless network optimizing project is proposed and executed. The quality of network has been advanced dramatically. Based on the work above, subscriber calling pattern and subscriber growth pattern are studied also. It provides instructional suggestions for the next phase of network engineering and network expanding. A preparatory project is achieved in this article for the next period network planning. The project is applied in the new engineering design and engineering construction already.
