This thesis is devoted to the study of support for mobile networks in IPv6. Mobile IPv6 caters for mobile hosts but not when it comes to the movement of a group of node i.e. mobile network. Network mobility deals with scenarios in which a group of nodes move around together in the Internet topology. The aim is to provide seamless mobility, transparency and continuity of ongoing sessions to the nodes located inside the mobile network. Mobile networks have their own issues when it comes to routing. This is the topic the thesis tries to deal with. Our contribution is a proposal, which tries to alleviate the problems of sub-optimal routing and excessive packet overhead that appear in network mobility. We try to keep our proposal as close as possible to the Mobile IPv6 standards, the IETF standard for mobile hosts. We propose to extend MIPv6 to mobile networks with the addition of a few new features. We consider both short term and long-term solutions. We propose the use to two new caches to assist in nested scenarios of network mobility. The performance of our proposal is evaluated by simulation. We conclude this dissertation with a prospective framework for future research into network mobility.
