Some cutting-edge technologies, such as WiMax, LTE and super broadband, are developing rapidly. Obviously, they have deeply impacted the development of wireless communication. As a result, nowadays, it has been a main and challenging problem that a unified platform, which can support high rate and integrated media, is required to be designed. Since, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing possesses many advantages in the fields of high speed communication, it is considered as an attractive method to solve the problems in many high speed communication systems. In this thesis, a design scheme, which is based on FPGA, is proposed for the OFDM transmit-receive communication system. The main feature of present work in this thesis is that an entire OFDM digital communication system is designed on one FPGA chip. Obviously, it is a highly integrated design scheme. Moreover, it is found that the system based on present design scheme is extremely reliable. Comparing with DSP scheme, present design supports quicker data transmission rate because of the high speed concurrence nature. The outline of this thesis is shown as follow:Firstly, the history, some Cutting-edge researches and key technologies of OFDM are demonstrated.Secondly, some theories related to present research are introduced. They include fundamental theory of OFDM and some of wireless transmission agreements, such as 802.11, 802.16 and so on.Thirdly, the structural design of OFDM transmitter and receiver is introduced. The main works include determining the data frame structure of OFDM and system parameters in detail.Fourthly, the design of modules for OFDM communication system, which includes QPSK modulation, demodulation, IFFT/FFT transform, insertion and remove of training-sequence, cyclic-prefix, DUC/DDC, is completed. Furthermore, some important and creative works have been done, which include improvement on maximum likelihood algorithm for synchronizations of symbol-timing and frequency estimation, improvement on phase error compensation of OFDM system. All of these modules have been programmed with Verilog HDL language.Lastly, the functional and timing simulation work has been done using the software of Modelsim. Then debugging of hardware circuits is carried out on Spartan-3A DSP S3D 1800A MicroBlaze exploitation board. It is found that the expecting results are obtained.
