The target recognition and tracking technology is a very important field in modern science and technology. It involves image processing, automatic control and computer application, and so on. It is widely used in civil and military affairs, for example, advance warning, weapon control, video monitoring.In this thesis, the algorithms of target recognition and tracking of moving laser spot in active laser reconnaissance have been analyzed. Then an adder system for adding laser spot coordinate to the video signal is investigated and implemented, which could inspect the laser spot efficiently.The algorithms about target recognition and tracking are used to recognize and track the laser spot. Some of the classic algorithms are improved, and also most of the algorithms are compared to each other. The algorithms mainly include three parts, image pre-processing, target recognition and tracking. First, each frame image is pretreated with median filter and mean filter. Second, the frame difference method is adopted to recognize the moving part; then, using the Otsu algorithm to depart the laser from background. At last, the coordinate of laser spot center is obtained using the gravity center algorithm or ellipse-fitting. In addition, the algorithms mentioned above have been improved. In the case of inter-frame difference algorithm, the empirical value is used in Otsu algorithm. The windows-tracking technology is adopted to reduce of background noise and improve the computing speed. At the same time, the spot identification and tracking technologes are discussed under special conditions, the the dark background and high speed laser spot.The adder system is design and implemented for adding laser spot data to the video signal. On the control of MCU AT89C51, the system could add the laser spot's coordinate to the video withμPD6450. So the measurements are shown directly, and the laser spot tracking is monitored in real-time. In this thesis, the design of hardware and software, all parts of the circuit diagrams and the main programs are given. The adder system has great features with stable character, small cubage, low energy use, and also been used in the real system.
