With the wide applications of lasers in many fields, monitoring and controlling laser beam quality received intensive attentions. Nowadays, several laser spot profile analysis system are commercially available. However, these systems have several major disadvantages: high cost, low expansibility, and large volume. Therefore now it is necessary to develop new laser spot profile analysis system with low price, ease-of-use and the ability of fast analysis and display.This thesis introduces newly developed laser spot analysis software, which is based on CCD camera technology and USB interface. The software can acquire laser spot image, calculate several key profile parameters of the laser spot (center position, radius, elasticity and intensity), and real-time display these parameters in 2-D and/or 3-D plots. The software is written in Microsoft Windows operation system, where C/C++ mixed coding and NI Measurement Studio library were used.In the last part of this thesis, this newly developed laser spot analysis System was evaluated by comparing our results with those from a commercial laser spot analysis system (Ophir BeamStar FX 50) by using He-Ne laser as the laser source. A systematic error of below 8% was found. Therefore we believe our laser spot analysis system can be used for the monitoring and detection of several important parameters of laser spots with acceptable quality, low cost and ease-of-use.
