In the space optical communications, laser beam transmission is impacted by the noises and the atmospheric turbulence. The data and reference for the transmission of laser beam in space optical communication are provided by the research on the laser spot on the receiving end by using image processing methods.The identification algorithm and characteristics of the laser spot in the space optical communication are studied in this thesis. Firstly, the transmission characteristic on laser atmospheric turbulence is analyzed theoretically in this thesis. The corresponding treatment options are presented according to the different characteristics of near-field and far-field spot. In the near-field experiment, the subtract-background or the constrained least-square restoration is used to pretreatment laser spot image firstly, and then the threshold of image segmentation and contour extraction are used to determine the spot region. In the far-field experiment, two image processing algorithms based on laser beam image are used: adaptive threshold segmentation method, fuzzy threshold segmentation method. The problems that the background of laser beam image of the far-field experimental is complex, internally shaded are mainly solved. Finally, the laser brightness, spot heart contrast, the laser beam parameters are calculated, and characteristics of the laser beam are analyzed.According to the experimental results, the laser spot can be identified and a reference is provided for the space optical communication transmission probably.
