| With the rapid development and implement of mobile communication technology and related laws, more and more multimedia services are required by the market of mobile phone, such as listening to music, watching movies, watching TV, etc. Multimedia is a very important direction of future applications, and mobile operators also will provide services from simple voice to multimedia value-added applications.Current applications are SMS, MMS, WAP, and so on. They are the majority of value-added services. Thinking about current applications, there have two deficiencies: 1. the broadband advantage of 3G can not be totally used of, and the small bandwidth requirement of current applications becomes disadvatage; 2. multimedia applications can not be provided by existing technologies. So, it's very important to provide corresponding multimedia platform to match the requirements of market. On the platform of mobile phone, Symbian OS has been authorized to the major mobile phone manufacturers of world. It occupies the most of markets. Symbian OS wins recognition from users in system capability and other aspects. However, Symbian OS based multimedia applications still can not satisfy requirements of users. This dissertation focuses on Symbian OS based mobile multimedia applications. It analyses and concludes the present status and future challenges of mobile phone multimedia applications. It proposes and implements Symbian OS based Mobile multi-Media Platform -- SOMP. The platform is divided into three parts: server-side, client-side, and network communication module. The server-side handles client requests and builds background web system, etc. The client-side deals with the interaction logic of users, sents user requests, and shows results. The network communication module uses MD5 digital signatures and XXTEA encryption technology to support the security of applications. It is proved that SOMP are effective and ease to use through a demo application -- BookMan. |
