With the emergence of various novel value-added communication services, the era of the next generation communication-3G is only a step away. Both the deployment of operators' servers and the application on users' terminals are moving towards IMS. IMS -a novel form of 3G multimedia servie-is a global, access-independent and standard-based IP connectivity and service control architecture that enables various types of multimedia services to end-users using common Internet-based protocol. IMS is currently regarded as the key technology of the Next Generation Networking(NGN) and the best solution to the mergence of the fixed and mobile network, implementing the reliable and flexible control of the multimedia transportation with SIP-based IP network. SIP is a text-based and HTTP-like client-server protocol for peer-to-peer communication, which is used to establish, modify and terminate IP multimedia sessions, offering a new generation IP-based serviece to terminal users, operators and their partners. IMS offers us great capability of the operation and mergence for services, applying a SIP mechanism to all types of services to implement the effective control, contributing the convenience to the development and mergence of the multimedia value-added service. Now the work on IMS mainly focuses on the server and neglects the research on the client. However, the IMS terminal is just the direct interface for customers to experience the fruit of this advanced technology. Images and graphics are the important information carrier for human beings. Research shows that more than 70% of the effective information comes from visual communication. Therefore, the fosterage of video service on IMS client is the urgent demand of the development of IMS and communication industry. This dissertation is proposed to develop a video-sharing system on the client of IMS. With the unique mobile operating system, this presented system implements the real-time control on the interaction and quality of the media data to completely emphasize video-sharing function of IMS. Symbian-a mobile operating system developed together by Nokia and Sony Ericsson- is employed in the system to combine with IMS to integrate a pratical mobile sevice platform, which shows a multimedia, intelligentized and human-oriented mobile communication service. The author's work and innovation include:1. research on the development flow and task control of the advanced mobile embedded system-Symbian;2. first integrating IMS and Symbian into a mobile video service tp make up the lack of IMS terminal development in the world to some extent;3. first implementing the SIP signaling logic on Symbian;4. an effective control on transportation of media stream and solution to the synchronization of video and audio.
