In order to satisfy the request of super high-speed and super high-capacity optical communication system, people keeps developing lots of optical communication models. Fiber laser has attracted much attention for its advantages of low threshold, high efficiency, beam quality, reliability, compactness and thermal management from its emergence. It is widely used in optical communication, aviation and spaceflight, life science, military and industry. When information time coming, fiber laser developed more rapidly. Besides, the erbium-doped fiber laser has been investigated as the main direction in recent years. Erbium-doped fiber laser is a new kind of laser and an active optical appliances. In this paper, the author studied the erbium-doped fiber ring laser.Firstly, the author introduced the research intent of the fiber laser, summarized the basic principle and several classification methods of fiber laser, and the research and development of fiber laser at home and abroad in recent years. Secondly, the author described the mainly light and electric appliances of the erbium-doped fiber laser, including the erbium-doped fiber, LD pumping, WDM, fiber grating, isolator etc. The third, the theory of EDF laser was discussed. The experiment showed that the output power of the laser was related with the length of erbium-doped fiber, the coupled-ration of output coupler. Then the fit length of erbium-doped fiber and fit couple-ration of output coupler was gained.Then we proceeded the excellent turning with the construction of the erbium-doped ring fiber laser, and issued an new structure model. This fiber laser contains higher export power. At last, studing the tunable mechanism of the erbium-doped fiber laser, according to the method of the fiber grating, the experiment adopted the new structure, using the different temperature and pressure's fiber gratings. It can be analysised that the different structure determined the different tuning range, enhancement technology has a great effect on the tune range.
