Dense-wavelength division multiplexing(DWDM) is one of the key technologies for capacity expansion in optical fiber network systems. The multi-wavelength fiber laser has shown the attractive potential application and it has been the subject of intensive study. On the basis of the deep study of the current studying situation of multi-wavelength fiber lasers and its tendency of development, we make clear the significance of the study of multi-wavelength fiber lasers and propose a novel multi-wavelength Erbium-doped fiber ring laser at room temperature. In this thesis, firstly, with the rate equation theory, we use analytical methods to deduce the relationships of the lasing wavelength and output power vs Erbium-doped fiber length, coupler ratio and intracavity losses. The experimental results show a good agreement with the calculated values. Furthermore, several nanometer tunable lasing wavelength is obtained by varying coupler ratio. Secondly, we propose and demonstrate experimentally a novel multi-wavelength Erbium-doped fiber ring laser by using a Mach-Zehnder fiber interferometer and composite cavity. As a result, simultaneous multi-wavelength oscillations with narrow linewidth and equal wavelength span are obtained in room temperature. This device has advantageous of simple design fabrication and low cost et al. Finally, some problems in the study are analyzed and discussed.
