In order to satisfy the request of superhigh-speed, superhigh-capacity optical communication system, lots of optical communication models appear. Among them, the WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technique becomes a hot subject and a research frontier because of its reconfigurability, transparency, compatibility and survivability. Many new types of active fiber components and passive fiber components are being researched and developed to meet the demand of WDM communication systems. Among the active fiber components, the fiber lasers, especially the wavelength tunable fiber laser, attract researchers'attention because of its simple integrability with the basic fiber systems and good temperature stability. Fiber lasers are emerging as an interesting alternative to semiconductor laser diodes for use in future WDM communication system. Tunable laser is the key devices in WDM fiber communication system, and is used in the fields of optical sensing system and high resolution spectroscope as well.This text summarily introduced the research background of the fiber laser first, including characteristics, main category, application, development etc. The second, it systematically described the mainly light and electric appliances of the erbium-doped fiber laser, primarily including the characteristic of the erbium-doped fiber, the working principle of the erbium-doped fiber laser and it's pumping source and driving electric circuit design, the WDM's working principle etc. The third, on the basic of the studing basic structure of the super-fluorescent fiber source and the fiber laser, we proceeded the excellent turning with the construction and characteristic parameter of the erbium-doped ring fiber laser, put forward a kind of novel structural model. This fiber laser contains higher export power. The power is 9.108 mW when the current is 200 mA, the bandwidth is 0.0472nm, the SMSR is 54.15dBm and the Signal-to-Noise is improved observably. On the foundation, we manufactured the fiber laser machine having better characteristic's laser. At last, studing the tunable mechanism of the erbium-doped fiber laser, according to the method of the fiber grating, the experiment adopted the new structure, using the different temperature and pressure's fiber gratings. It's tuning range was up to 2.865nm and it can be analysised that the different structure determined the different tuning range.
