It's common that something goes wrong with a routine system especially when the studies on Lotus Domino/Notes B/S system construction are still on the threshold. As one of the pioneers in office automation system development and maintians based on Lotus Domino/Notes platform, Fudan University face varies problems and succeed in solving them, one of which is sound research on full-text search.According to our five years work, there are two major problems in long-term run of Lotus Domino/Notes based office automation system: low efficiency of full-text search caused by improper usage of search function and poor web response due to database redundancy. In this article, dominant factors affecting performance of full-text search are thoroughly anaylzed through theoretical perception as well as practical data collection including mock test and user feedback. Experiments are performed in varies aspects relating to search capability of LotusScript fuction and comparison of efficiency of several functions in full-text search of Notes database are deeply described as well.Our solutions to full-text search improvement of document management module in campus office automation system of Fudan University are designed in correspondence with varies references, on-going standards as well as practical demands. Both research ideas and detailed executeable plan are discussed in this article and successfully realized in Fudan University. Response time is reduced via alteration of database structure and construction of full-text index. On the other hand, primitive bottlenecks in function selection, flow chart, management method and standard establishment are eased by brand new system setup based on Lotus Domino/Notes office automation.When documents accumulate to a certain degree, search efficiency is greatly impaired. In this article, we discussed the reason underlying to this problem and how to resolve it. The key point is that the development of database technology and practical demands must be taken into consideration in module design. The cycle time of production process from system design, disposal to execution is outlined so that integrated solution to these steps can guarantee a robust, stable and easy-to-use system in complicated processes.In the end we would like to emphasize that all these applications survived through bunch of bugs, accidents as well as alteration of production line during five years campus work in Fudan University. The agreement of end user shows that informational construction of Fudan University facilitates daily life of teachers and students.
