Because of the development of the times, readers' requirements and stimulate competition in the media, the comment pages entered the phase of rapid development in the early 21st century in China. After recent years of exploration, the comment pages have grown up with some special functions and roles. First of all, the comment page is a new way to strengthen the news comment. Putting the news comment together in a page needs higher quality of news comment and the better layout of newspaper. Secondly, the emergence of the comment pages brings about a series of changes, such as more types of comments, wider group of the author, more different of the views, more interaction and more aesthetic sense of the layout of the page, and so on, which make the news comments having more effect. Thirdly, the successful operation of the comment page has brought new brands, which is a bright banner of a newspaper. The comment page of The Beijing news is a typical representative in China, so it has the research value. I chosed 28 days' samples of The Beijing news from June 18 to July 15 in 2007,and analyze the features of the topics, the author groups, the quality of the news comments as well as the layout of the page. At present, the comment page in China are facing good opportunities for development, but also facing more challenges, such as the enhancing of readers' speculation capacity and the intensifying competition in the media. Because the comment pages are growing now, of course, there will be some shortcomings. So, we should face up to the existing problems of the comment pages, and pay more attention to the expanding of the comment sources, the author groups' training, the layout of the page and the improvement of the comments' quality, which are the main task of the comment pages. The emergence and development of the comment pages not only affect ideas and functions of the communication, but also bring some imperceptible influence to the society in China. Scholars MA Shaohua have said: "The comment pages including the editorials, letters from readers and various remarks column and so on have been the universal norms and systems of the international community, whether the mainstream or the non-mainstream, whether the major newspapers or the tabloids, whether in the eastern countries or in the western countries." Although, in our country, this universal norms and systems have not yet fully established, but the continually explore and efforts of many newspapers have opened a new times of the comment pages. There is a vast space before the comment pages in China's newspapers, which is full of opportunities. We look forward to the mature of the comment pages, and more innovation in the road of the development.
