When SARS crisis burst in 2003, continuous buying panic and rumors spread everywhere made the public trust in media (PTM) a significant problem. During April 21st - 23rd, 2003, the SARS period, an investigation was taken by regarding the question: "If Civil arguments about 'SARS' and some views from our official reports are dissimilar, which would you believe, generally?" in Beijing. The investigation discovered that the most populace believes the reports from the medium, but about 1/3 Beijing residents do not. When face to a major public event, if residents hold suspicion about the information transmitted by medium, it will cause the information unable to transmit effectively and the initial significance of the medium, transmit information, will be destructed. After the crisis, PTM become hot issues in academic. The research in our country about the PTM was emerged in recent year. By checking literatures and papers, I found that the hot research point in mainland was focused on the strategy to promote the PTM, but the basic concept, historical origin and the social background of the PTM was seldom involved. In addition, I find although research from overseas and Taiwan province can only be referenced. Because research in US is a typical "the administrative research" problem. The majority influential researches about the PTM are granted from medium industry or the administrative department. Of course, these researches obey the request from the medium industry or the administrative department. So they just adapt in some area or some stage, do not have the universal significance. Because the politics, economy, culture in our country has so many different aspects with the Western country even Taiwan province, we should establish a research system which adapts conditions in our country. We can not constantly copy. We should draw on the best of the PTM research in Western countries. We should first to analyze the question then solve it. Therefore, first chapter in this thesis is about the concept and the research situation of the PTM; in the second chapter what did some well-known newspapers do to mold the PTM is discussed based on the Chinese news history. On this basis, establishment and promotion of the PTM in our country is involved in the third and fourth chapter from the view of the influence factor of the PTM.
