China's educational television news programs have experienced different phases of development over the past decades from childhood to maturity. However, there are still rooms for improvement in terms of content selection, transmission format,communication of ideas and personnel training, etc. With the rapid development of new media, as well as the cutting edge Internet technology, its development is facing both challenges and opportunities. On the one hand,the development perspectives,audience needs and transmission format have all been challenged which call for changes. On the other hand, the development of new media, big data concept and media integration have also brought opportunities to the development of educational television news programs.In this context, by analyzing the status quo of educational television news programs in China, this research is to focus on the related issues and to suggest some possible solutions for China's educational television news program development strategy that are inspired by the opportunities brought by new media.The study of the above issues is based on the author's personal work experience at the China Education Television (CETV) News Center in the past two years. It is to identify the prevailing problems in the CETV production of educational TV news programs and to give some pertinent comments and proposals.The first chapter of this article mainly clarifies the concept of educational television news programs and reviews the development of educational television news programs in China, aiming at laying the foundation for the analysis below.The second chapter of this paper mainly analyzes the status quo of educational television news programs in China, and explores the disadvantages in there content production and reporting characteristics and existing problems. The author found that China's educational television news program has its own unique reporting principles,characteristics of the topic and the perspective of the report. However, the needs of individual users are often be ignored, the rules of the education are often be ignored, the multi-directional communication channels are also often be ignored.The third chapter analyzes the challenges and opportunities of the development of new media for China's educational television news program. It analyzes the challenges brought by the new media to the production of educational television news programs in China in three aspects such as the development notion, audience demand and communication mode, all of which has aggravated the seriousness of the problem. On the other hand, the new media also provides opportunities for the development of educational television news programs in China with three important factors: big data concept,technological innovation and media integration.Based on the above analysis, the last chapter proposes countermeasures for the development of educational television news in China through improving development Concept, content production, communication mode and staff training. This paper argues that the new programs of educational television in the era of new media should achieve four levels of development simultaneously, among which the development Concept is precondition, staff training is prerequisite, the content production is fundamental, and the form of communication is the delivery channel.
