On The Public News On The Development Of Journalism In China Revelation

Public journalism is a social event advocated by American journalism between the end of 1980' s and the beginning 1990' s. It was a kind of answer by the journalism facing public criticism and crisis of public faith. Owing to the introduction by scholars like Professor Cai Wen, more people are getting to know public journalism in China. The TV program "1860 Hot News" by Jiangsu TV brought forward public journalism in its one-year anniversary, which began the tentative approach on the practice of public journalism. Chapter one introduces the origin, the early practice and surge of American public journalism. Based on the then economical, political, and media situation, chapter two analyses the social background of the origin of public journalism. The practice of public journalism is discussed in chapter three. The introduction and analysis of the similarities and differences between the events of inside story disclosure in early stage and public journalism are in this chapter. The characteristics of public journalism are analyzed based on the practice of public journalism of several major media. Chapter four discusses theories of public journalism and gives an analyses on the three theoretical origins of public journalism theory, the concept and appraisal of which are also given here, pointing out participatory journalism is a new stage of the development of public journalism. Based on the TV program " 1860 Hot News " , the situation and background of public journalism are discussed in chapter five and several uncertain factors affecting public journalism are also pointed out.
