It needs to measure the speed, to take photo and to control the movement parameters of some object such as flying shell, powder explodes, exploded piece, fast rotating axes in the research domain of hydromechanics, detonation physics and engineering practices. Because of high moving speed, it requires high speed equipment to observe and record the object, however, most of these objects is not illuminant themselves, so it needs light source and accurate synchronization trigger system to cause the CCD image. Under the background, the research of flash imaging speed measurement system is proposed.The flash imaging system which can not only measure its speed, but also show the flying pose of flying object, uses digital CCD to capture the flying object when the light source flares to the object through synchronization trigger, and gets the speed by image processing technology. This system uses CCD to record object images, uses high power LED as light source and uses filed programmable gray array (FPGA) to design the synchronization control circuit, which improves the test precision of the system and integration degree, as well as the environment flexibility. First of all, this paper introduces the purpose and the research significance, emphasizes the design of synchronization trigger circuit which based on FPGA, and the design of imaging processing software after expatiating the principle and configuration of the entire system.Tested by the real shell in shooting range, the flash imaging system is proved as a system of subtly designed, powerful function, environment flexibility, high precision, good reliability, and the speed test error is less than 1m/s. This system has good practicality and popularizing value. It is one of the equipment of speed-measurement for shell and other high speed moving objects. It has a broad foreground in test of modern shooting range.
