With the rapid development of the internet in the last forty years, a new generation of internet protocol-IPv6 protocol is gradually replacing the current IPv4 protocol. However, due to many factors, our military technology and applications in the network have been clearly left behind by foreign military. For example, the US military has shifted the military command network from IPv4 to IPv6 in early 2010. In order to meet the future defense requirements, seize the opportunities of military transformation, adapt to the development trend of network centric warfare, research on the IPv4/IPv6 transition strategy of the military training network has an important and practical significance for the upgrading of our the military training network in the future.This paper is set in the IPv6 upgrading of the military training network. Because of its poor security condition, address shortage, low service support and routing table expansion, the IPv4 protocol does not meet the defense requirements of the military training network. The prerequisite to realize the full deployment of IPv6 in the military training network is to achieve the steady transition of the military training network from IPv4 to IPv6. For this reason, the steady transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is the focal point of this paper. The purpose of this paper is to check the feasibility of the steady transition from IPv4 to IPv6 in the military training network, propose a transition strategy for the next generation network of the military training network centered by IPv6, make technical reserves and provide real reference for the erection of IPv6 in the military training network.Firstly, this paper investigates information related to the military training network and its core business needs, collects information about the IPv6 protocol and transition strategy from the world. With the study and research of the IPv6 basic theory, we understand the core technology of IPv6 protocol comprehensively and deeply. This paper makes full introduction for these three popular transition technologies:dual-stack, tunnels and IPv4/IPv6 protocol to address translation, and then makes analysis and comparison with them. And then this paper designs a transition gateway applied by the military training network with single transition technology, proposes many transition technologies on the basis of practical application so as to meet the steady transition requirements and then designs the IPv4 to IPv6 transition prediction scheme for the military training network. This paper constructs the experiment platform with the help of the existing equipment, and then achieves the interconnections between IPv6 hosts, interconnections between IPv6 hosts and IPv6 servers, realizes the three major IPv4/IPv6 transition technology experiments and also checks the feasibility of the steady transition from IPv4 to IPv6 in the military training network. According to the analysis of the experiment data, practical situation of the military training network and the comprehensive transition technology, this paper finally proposes the transition strategy and the construction scheme for the military training network, and also provides effective reference for the steady upgrading of IPv6 in the military training network.
