Recently, many papers on dual-band micro-strip antennas have been proposed, there are three methods to achieve dual-band operation in general, (1) multi-patch,(2) slots, (3) lumped elements. Multi-patch and lumped elements will make antennas complicated, whereas to add slots is a simple way to operate in dual-band in single layer patch, and it is very easy to integrate with microwave circuits, L and U shape slots are very common. The radiation theory and analysis method of micro-strip antenna are presented in the first part of this thesis. A novel design of dual-band micro-strip antenna is presented. The dual frequency operation is achieved by load slot in rectangle antenna. In this paper, we focus on analyzing and designing a dual-band micro-strip antenna for GSM application. According to the requirement of the project of GSM, a new kind of dual-band micro-strip antenna, which is embedding rectangle shape slot, has been proposed. This kind of antenna has a simple structure and easy to process and have a low cost. This paper uses the ie3d of Zeland Company to simulate the dual-band antenna. The results indicate the antenna has good dual-frequency resonance characteristic, with its operating mode centered at about frequency 0.92GHz and 1.8 GHz. The antenna has good gains which are more than 5dB at both resonant modes and its impedance bandwidths defined by VSWR=2 can meet the requirements of dual bands of GSM. This paper analysis the effect of the parameters in detail.
