WLAN, short of Wireless Local Area Network, is a technology of quick accessing Internet by wireless technique. With the appearance of IEEE 802. 11g, multi-mode WLAN, which is compatible with several criterions such as IEEE802.11a, IEEE802.11b and IEEE802.11g, is required for society and market. There is a need of dual-band or two transmitters, which work at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, respectively.In recent years, mobile communication has been developed fast and the number of mobile users has increased rapidly. Thus, dual-band or multi-band radio transmitting is needed. So dual-band or multi-band antennas for WLAN application become a hot topic.In this paper, we focus on analyzing and designing a dual-band micro-strip antenna for WLAN application. Recently, many papers on dual-band micro-strip antennas have been proposed, there are three methods to achieve dual-band operation in general, (1) multi-patch, (2) slots, (3) lumped elements. Multi-patch and lumped elements will make antennas complicated, whereas to add slots is a simple way to operate in dual-band in single layer patch, and it is very easy to integrate with microwave circuits. L and U shape slots are very common, after studied many papers, a new kind of dual-band micro-strip antenna, which is embedding L shape slots, has been proposed. This kind of antenna is easy to analyze, fabricate and adjust. In this paper, first, we will calculate the antenna dimension parameters in Cavity Method. Next, we will analyze the proposed antenna in finite difference time domain (FDTD) method, and get S11 and pattern parameters. Next, we will simulate and optimize this kind of antenna with electromagnetic simulation software Ansoft HFSS, which has good reputation in electromagnetic field. Finally, we will fabricate and test that antenna, give some parameters and compare to analysis and simulation results.
