Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a kind of self-organizing network which is composed of many small nodes wired by wireless communication technologies. The WSN can pick up data, transform data and process data. It is a new field of information technology. Distributed Detection System (DDS) is a useful theory and can be easily used in WSN; it can be used in martial command, control, communication, weather forecast and medical treatment. In DDS, each sensor process dada based on its observation first, and then transmit the data to other nodes for compressing and data fusion. Finally the compressed data is transmitted to the management center. Compressing the data reduced the bandwidth need of communication, decreased the energy consuming, reduced the detection performance require and the price of sensor nodes. Dispersive method of signal process can also increase the capacity of computing. However, because the management center can only get the compressed information, the detect performance will be worse than the uncompressed process which the data are sent to management center directly. So the optimal local process and appropriate fusion method will reduce the performance lessen.Because the WSN is connected by wireless communication, so the channel condition is always complicated. Researches in conventional way are always focus on the fusion rules or the fading channels as two different fields and will not consider the channel impact in the detect fusion rules. Recently, the detect fusion rules by considering the channel condition are researched, it is called channel aware decision fusion. Hence, after the introduction of WSN and data fusion theory, the paper introduced the channel aware decision fusion rules based on WSN and made the research and analysis. By analyzing the routing protocols which is very important in WSN, based on some typical cluster-based routing protocols, the applicability and performance of each channel aware decision fusion rule in different cluster-based routing protocols are discussed. Because the channel aware decision fusion rules can not be used in multi-level cluster-based routing protocols, the paper devised a new way to extend the channel aware decision fusion rule in multi-level cluster-based routing protocols, and then made the simulation and analysis of the new rules. The result of simulation and analysis reveal that the new method can make good detection in multi-level cluster-based routing protocols. Then, the applicability and performance of each new rule in each multi-level cluster-based routing protocol are discussed. Finally, summarized the works of the paper, and discussed the next research in both the fusion rules and the WSN and how to combine the two fields' research together to make the applicability and performance better.
