Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), which is made by the convergence of sensor, micro-electro-mechanism system and wireless communication technology, is a novel technology about acquiring and processing information. It consists of a large number of distributed nodes which be organized into a multi-hop wireless network by themselves. It can be used for testing, sensing, collecting and processing information of monitored objects. Each node has one or more sensors, embedded processors and low-power radios. Typically, these nodes cooredinate to perform a common task and send messages to users.WSN has many advantages, for example: it can be used for emergency search, disaster rescue, military applications, and so forth. Consequently, WSN takes on widespread application foreground. Both academia and industries are very interested in it.A key challenge in Wireless Sensor Network is using the limited energy in a reasonable way in order to maximize the network lifetime. Based on the view of energy consumption, this thesis sets up simulation model and has verified its exactness in terms of energy consumption. The main results are as follows:1. Energy consumption of WSN is overviewed from both nodes layer and network layer, then the application of energy consumption technologies for sensor hardware, topology control, network clustering, routing and data aggregation are respectively introduced.2. This thesis has set up the simulation model of a wireless sensor network in terms of energy consumption, it includes: node model, network model and interference model.3. This thesis has designed a complete frame in view of parameters estimation question in the simulation model, and have obtained parameters'value through the programming.4. This thesis has simulated the wireless network system by using the common network simulation tool NS2. By contrasting those parameter's value between simulation and estimation, we can verify that the model is correct.
