The administration of project's construction progress is an essential part in the process of constructing and managing highway, for it is closely related to the cost control and other constructional activities. However, in terms of highway construction nowadays, administrators tend to adopt the two-dimensional graph to demonstrate the project's construction progress and conduct the management. In this paper, the author has studied the principle and the method of 4D model in stimulating the project's construction progress, which has provided a visualized administration platform to optimize allocation of resources, control the cost to a reasonable degree, and control the project's construction progress. The main research achievements list as follows:(1) In view of the road scene's dynamic construction demand, the paper has put forward organizational and managing methods suitable for different types of data. By use of rationally dividing road's basic design data and the project's construction progress and formulating the corresponding organizational way, this paper has solved the problem of dynamically updating and loading the data.(2) This composition has studied the 4D model's modeling method for various constructional objects of road projects, and proposed the principle which is used to divide model condition according to the actual construction craft. What'smore, it has taken the complete image after various craft construction model, and decides the condition of the model according to the constructional progress data, causing the model in different periods to correspond with the scenic construction situation. This has realized the dynamic simulating project's construction progress, and has vividly reflected the construction condition in different time.(3) This paper has studied how to visually inquire the construction progress under three dimensional scenes and the data, and establishes a mechanism of bidirectional inquiry - from data to scene and from scene to data, and enables the data of scene and construction progress to closely connect, and had satisfied viewer's demand for inquiring the construction progress.(4) This paper has made a thorough research for the realistic rendering theory in three dimensional scenes. By using the technique of geometrical modeling, texture mapping, color applying, lighting, and fogging, this paper has put forward the modeling and rending of project works, which effectively improves the real effect of scene.(5) The author has applied above-mentioned method and algorithm to develop "the highway construction progress simulation system" by using OpenGL and Visual C++8.0, which is successfully applied in the construction of Guangyuan to Bazhong and Changde to Jishou.
