Based On The Psip Of The Atsc Digital Set-top Box Design And Realization

With deepening of video compression technology, a variety of standards concerned accordingly emerged in early 90's, in which of MPEG-2 was extensively spread; Meanwhile, the development of IC technology hastened the manufacturers to produce chips exclusively used for video compression; all of which greatly pushed digital TV technology forward. 1995 witnessed ATSC standards for digital TV was passed in USA. ATSC, namely Advanced Television Systems Committee,is composed of 172 digital TV companies. One of its job is to set standards for advanced TV technology, including those for HDTV. It is this committee which officially granted ATSC national standards for digital TV on 15th, Sep,1995. ATSC based on HDTV was adopted as national standards for digital TV in USA on 24th, Dec, 1996.FCC determined to complete the historical transformation from analog TV to digital TV in nine years. In 2009, analog TV will be all-around abandoned and sales of ATSC digital TV will increase tremendously. Therefore, a lot of manufactures focus on development of products based on ATSC digital TV.The thesis firstly elaborates on ATSC transmission theory based on MPEG-2 system standards and PSIP(Program and System Information Protocol) theory, the core of ATSC as well as some problems PSIP solved. By minutely analyzing PSIP tables, a complete set of components are designed to parse and save data in those tables. The developers easily customize application software for ATSC STB through the interfaces provided by the components. Moreover, the thesis designs a set of database which stores and accesses TV programs, system setting and EPG, etc and graphic components interface, customized OSD. The thesis finally makes a brief introduction to design of ATSC application software, such as EPG, EAS, Close Caption. A full framework is set by the thesis for design of ATSC digtal STB.
