Study On Timing Recovery For ATSC DTV System

In this paper timing recovery scheme in all-digital ATSC receivers is studied and improved. Firstly, ATSC standard is presented, and basic principles and key techniques in timing recovery are discussed. Next, the value and effect of compensation technique is demonstrated. At the meantime, pretreatment using field sync is proposed which can improve the stability of timing recovery loop. Then a new compensation scheme using segment sync is constructed, which can upgrade the performance of timing recovery under multi-path. Finally, taking 8-VSB in ATSC standard for example, performance of several timing recovery schemes is simulated under different multi-path. The whole system has been simulated with MATLAB and C, and is ready for ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) implementation.
