With the increasing improvements of embedded technology, most of the handworks have been replaced by machine-working gradually. However, tons of new questions are mushrooming for the reason of different implementation of devices. On one hand, the former machines were designed to aim at the specific situation, which means they would hardly be fitted for a new environment if any parts of its whole system changed. On the other hand, it seems to be impossible for server-side to manage numerous devices efficiently. In order to settle these problems mentioned above, therefore, M2M (Machine-to-Machine) is introduced recently.A novel model of M2M devices is implemented in this thesis, which base on the deep research about various M2M prototypes. We piece Atmel AT91SAM9260 and Siemens MC35I together as the hardware platform, because this framework could provide strong support for the upper applications. Meanwhile, we choose eCos RTOS and embedded Java as the components of the software platform and the user applications can be completely supported by the APIs from CLDC/MIDP library. Furthermore, we design and implement the Wireless Short Message module (JSR120) and Remote Application Management System so that the whole platform can be greatly applied to the wireless application environment.Through the great ability of subsequent developement based on current platform, application developers can meet the requirements from distinct environment easily. Additionally, the application platform is composed by J2ME, which in order to eliminate the huge gap caused by different hardware/software architecture. Therefore, it takes the best of advantages on Java language and the development cycle could be greatly shortened. In our platform design, however, we need to provid a suite of M2M services that are used in most M2M applications. We integrate several components, such as application management system, wireless short message module, OTAP service and so on, so that all of the devices can be controlled under the server monitor efficiently.
