Now it's coming to an era of knowledge economy, and education has become an important field which has so much to do with national economy and social development. To promote economic growth and social progress depends largely on the speed and quality of education development. When more and more areas and schools have educational networks or campus networks, when educators increasingly rely on computers and various education management information systems, they have to face new problems and confusion: the various systems designed by different companies are not compatible with each other, data can't be exchanged, either; New products fail to adapt to existing systems, even different versions of the same product can not be compatible with the original data, etc. The problems about data sharing and exchange in education management have slowed down the pace of developing educational information system. More and more current campuses have become "islands of information" due to lack of interoperability of their application software. Therefore schools Interoperability Framework is urgently needed. The key to improve the school management system is to improve the database management. Thus data integration and optimization is very important.At the beginning of this thesis, it makes a short introduction of data integration on education, pointing out the importance of integration and optimization. Then, it reveals the present situation of data integration and optimization in both domestic and foreign education industries. Then it introduces an integration system named CMAS (College Management Application System) based on XML Mode. The main function of CMAS is to offer a platform for the schools to integrate various application systems and databases. In the system, we process the collecting and storing of the data, build on each subsystem interface and complete procedures from collecting original data to cleaning incorrect data, to integrating heterogeneous data, to conversing data structure, and to storing data through .NET developer. According to that, we analyze the demand of the system and make functional design, particularly introduce its engine and Xquery application. The final part of the thesis is about analyzing the effect of CMAS based on the actual data. Also some shortcomings are mentioned with indicating the further research directions.
