Multimedia combines text, graphics, sound, animation, video and other elements together, which is full of content and wonder, providing more information, and more vivid than a single kind of media. The rapid development and wide application of multimedia computers have offered new opportunities for education, meanwhile, the wide spread of multimedia technology and the advent of the Internet create new environment for learning. However, whether the more abundant information will be more effectiveness for learning? In recent years, people realize more and more that we must design the multimedia materials according to the learner's cognitive law to raise the result of teaching of multimedia.In recent years, the foreign research field of multimedia learning advance rapidly from delivery media view to presentation modes view, and then to sensory modalities view. These three viewpoints have represented the developing process which penetrates gradually to multimedia study research. Cognitive load theory has become one of the fundamental theories used to describe the cognitive processes in learning with new technologies. It is very important to control the cognitive load effectively for the aim of design the multimedia learning environment properly. Multimedia interface is the mutual channel between learners and multimedia materials. The representation form of the interface will influence the result and efficiency that learners obtain information directly.This thesis proceeds from cognitive load theory, and mainly focusing on the design of multimedia interface information strategy. At first, the thesis makes a statement about the multimedia and multimedia presentation, and moreover summaries related research. And then, the thesis expounds related multimedia learning theory such as dual coding theory, cognitive load theory, and so on. Based on those theories, the thesis sum up cognitive load effects in multimedia learning, expatiates different interface elements' design methods based on cognitive load theory detailedly, and discusses the method of multimedia interface design which in accordance with the learner's cognitive law from the point of actual cases also. Finally, an experiment has been made to examine the study effects and cognitive load of the foreign language study in different multimedia learning environment.
