Along with the computer and Internet technology widely applied, Information technology has had more and more influence on the development of the world economy. As a manufacturing big country, China has become the manufacturing base of the world. Information technology plays an important part in China's manufacturing industry. The Ministry of Science and Technology of China officially started the manufacture information engineering project during "the 11th five-year plan" in September, 2006; it marks the arrival of information era in Chinese manufacturing industry. The business informationization not only provides scientific, reasonable and convenient management approach but also the strong support for innovation and R&D of product to the manufacturing enterprises.Due to the fierce market competition and the diversified customers' requirements, the manufacturing enterprises start to shift the emphasis from the production and sales to the R&D of the products. The integration and collaboration have being the focus of the manufacturing company. PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is significant to corporation's informationization as a new IT business strategy. It is based on the data integration of all the product life cycle and supports the collaboration and management in product conceptual design,manufacturing,sales and maintenance, etc. It is a system that can really support the product innovation. PLM system is applied in manufacturing company; it can effectively shorten the development cycle, reduce product cost, accelerate product innovation, improve product quality, and significantly strengthen the competitive power. PLM will be the developing direction of Chinese manufacturing informationization.With the thorough application of PLM system and the increasing amount of data, it is difficult for enterprises to find useful decision information from a large amount of data. The enterprises have an acute need for new technique to extract useful information from lots of data. Business Intelligence System based on data warehouse can meet the demands. It can effectively make use of the data of the information system, convert the data to knowledge, and provide the decision-making process for enterprise. Thus it can improve the market competition of the enterprise.In this thesis the technology of data warehouse is applied in PLM system, thus PLM system can provide not only the solution for all the product life cycle but also the capacity of the decision support. It will greatly raise the competition ability and promote the rapid development of the enterprise. This thesis studies the data warehouse technique and its application in PLM system. Firstly, the thesis studies the PLM system on the basis of the project of "Research and Implementation of PLM system based on Web", introduces the concept,system structure and function of PLM, expounds the necessity of data warehouse application in PLM system. Secondly, the thesis studies the data warehouse technique, analyses its composing part and system structure, introduces the architecture of the DSS(decision support system) based on data warehouse in PLM system, and moreover, with the "QuFu JinHuang Piston Corporation Ltd" as the background, designs the data model of data warehouse. On the basis, we use SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services to construct a data warehouse with a theme of sales. Based on the construction of the OLAP data cube, we analyze the OLAP data cube from different angles and show the results using the Pivot Table and Pivot Chart and establish the DSS based on the PLM system. This thesis has certain directive significance to enterprise (especially to the manufacturing) informationization.
