With the explosive growing scale of computer network application, the IT system which consists of network devices, hardware platforms, operating systems and application programs has become more complicated to manage than before. For the daily updating of network technology, the unstopped enriching of network resources and the frequent happening of network troubles, it is necessary to use variety kinds of network management products to help the administrators to complete the management task which could not be perfect only by manpower. The problem that how to make full use of the IT resources and to offer a stable and efficient network supporting environment in an enterprise always troubles the network managers. By the definition of the ISO, the network management means to enable a network to achieve optimal performance through planning, monitoring and controlling the resources and activities of it.This paper designs a network management system that works in the Sanmenxia Project Administration. This system is developed in the Visual Basic IDE. The basic functions are implemented by using object-orient analyzing, processing and programming models. The Microsoft Access database management model is adopted to improve the performance when a large number of data processing occurred. So the system also completes jobs such as connecting to the switcher, transferring data which is needed to preprocess by it to the Access database. A process which is running on the background is created to manage these jobs. The content is organized as follows: chapter one introduces the background knowledge, compares and analyses several modern network technology, classifies network management and network management software, looks back the history of network management protocols' development, and introduces several network management protocols briefly. Chapter two makes a detailed research and a systematic needs analysis in Internet users' registration, statistics, inquiries, management of network devices, operating conditions and operation modes. Chapter three is about the establishment of a safe, reliable .efficient ,manageable, and orderly network operation environment, and introduces a hardware implementation of the network, including the cabling construction, the selection switches, the switch configuration, data acquisition and data cleaning. Chapter four is devoted to the object-oriented methodology's basic theory and overview of the object-oriented technology's development, analyses the basic elements and characteristics of the object-oriented technology ,and uses the object-oriented technology as information modeling tool. In light of the subject research, network management data are analyzed and classified by object-oriented technology .network management database is also established by object-oriented technology. Chapter five shows how the network management database is established by analysis of various types of data, including user data, switch data, construction data, and programs are designed. Finally, a summary of the whole paper and some suggestions for improving are given. This management software makes customers' application its center task and combines the target of network management. Furthermore, it can also offer the end to end management according to the environment and customers' requirement. In order to combine the platform and software effectively, the management software uses Visual Basic's built-in controls to develop related interface. And then, the software, supported by database technology, combines switch management and user management swiftly and effectively. Moreover, the software can consider the development of customers' future network. In a word, the software has expansibility and can support network management standards.
