The goal of this thesis is to give a scheme on the application of wireless sensor network in the field of supervision of oil & gas pipeline. Based on deeply research of the application background, we introduce a new wireless sensor network protocol stack system named "Wireless sensor network Protocol for Line Topological Structure", "WP-LTS" for shorted. Then we realize the WP-LTS stack under the Keil C Integrated Development Environment based on RF chip CC2420 and microprocessor C8051 F121.WP-LTS protocol stack puts forward a series of solutions for the application filed of oil & gas pipeline supervision, including the sensor node layout scheme, the adaptive application independent data aggregation approach, the segmentation of networks method, the teamwork mechanism, time synchronization mechanism, time delay compensation method and effective power control application.The contents of the WP-LTS stack design include protocol stack level design, specification of each layer, interface definition between layers and algorithm design. We choose the five-layer structures as the rudiment of our protocol stack system, including physical layer, MAC layer, AIDA layer, network layer and application layer. The core contents of specification include the semantics of the primitives and realization of the related functions. Algorithm designs mainly include channel accessing control algorithm, transmitting power control algorithm and routing algorithm.The code of the WP-LTS stack is edited, compiled and debugged under Keil C Integrated Development Environment. In our system, function is the basic unit of the stack; it is used to transfer the packets or the data structure. The function defined in each layer's protocol is realized by a C source file, which call the functions provided by the sub layer.Liner wireless sensor network has a bright future for its extensive use. As a application-specific protocol, WP-LTS is suitable for liner topological structure because of the characteristics such as pertinency, appropriateness and effectiveness.
