Design And Implementation Of CLI Server And SNMP Agent For EPON OLT Device

As the rapid development of network, the bandwidth of core network and LAN has grown fastly. However, the access network's bandwidth developed much slowly than them. It's not enough for the high speed services. EPON is one of the new solution for optical fiber access network. It takes a Point-to-Multipoint Architecture and provides multi-service basing on Ethernet. It combines and advantage of PON technology and Ethernet technology, has the feature of high bandwidth, low cost and being used updated easily. So, it becomes one of the most effective solutions for access network.This paper mainly studied the core equipment of EPON network--OLT, designed and implemented CLI server and SNMP agent,through which OLT can be managed by the TELNET client and SNMP manager. CLI server is implemented based on Quagga CLI engine. For the characteristics of OLT, hierarchical structure of CLI was designed, which can be divided into 3 parts: EPON, SWITCH and SYSTEM. The paper focused on the implementation of commonds of SWITCH and SYSTEM. Implementation of SNMP agent is based on AdventNet's SNMP engine. The engine was expanded according to the characteristics of EPON API. The MIB files, containing the function of OLT managedment, DBA management, statistical inqueries and alarm management, was designed and than were translated to the corresponding modules of SNMP agent. Finally, to demonstrate that it can work properly , some tests are made on the OLT device.
