As the coming of the next generation of Internet—IPv6, the research of home network has become an international hot point.The article is focus on the primary research & design on home gateway, which is a core facility within home network. The article is also doing well on analyzing the characteristics & application of IPv6 protocol, constructing a home gateway module on the basis of Linux, which includes: the operation system analysis of home gateway, the characteristics of Linux, the reduction & transplanting of Linux system, the function realization of IPv6 routing, etc. The article is also referring to the designing by the connecting method of IPv6 during transition period.
