Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology is a kind of trade-off between the public network and the private network. Through logical tunnels in public networks, by encrypting data at network layer and taking other measures such as password protection, identity verity, privilege configuration and firewall.. .etc, VPN guarantees the integration of data and protect data from being stolen illegally. This technology satisfies both the consumer's need of data transmission in a cheap way and the requirement of network security. So it is an excellent substitute of private network and it reflects the up-to-date development trend of network technology. IP-based VPN will be one of the most important value-added services in the broadband business, and will be the potential one which can largely increase the profits. It will also be the fundamental structure of the next generation enterprise networks.In this paper, firstly, it will study the principles of the main VPN technologies and the different methods to set up the networks; by comparing the different VPN technologies, it will also conclude which one is the most suitable for Henan Netcom Corporation. Secondly, this paper will study the basic principle of the BBS (the broadband business system) of Henan Netcom Corporation, discuss the necessity of this project, and will make a final decision to choose the suitable implementation plan by analyzing the feasibility, advantages and disadvantages of several network construction schemes.Finally, considering the facts of the BBS project construction, this paper will study the key fundamental techniques which should be used when setting up VPN network based on the BBS, and discuss how to configure the system to implement the VPN business.Referring to the plan and implementation of the BBS project, this paper has discussed the key techniques of network construction, and made a deep analysis on how to implement different kinds of VPN business. Hope this paper can be a good reference for network construction. The subject origins from the project "The integrated broadband user management system of Henan Netcom Corporation". At present, Henan Province is the only one which used DHCP+ system in the broadband IP network in China and there had happened many severe network disaster based on this system. So based on the above background, this paper is trying to find the answers about how to reconstruct the broadband IP network to supply more stable and efficient services to more than 1,000,000 consumers in Henan, and to find how to deploy the broadband value-added businesses such as MPLS-VPN ,which has great commercial potential. I believe the study will have practical meanings to Henan Netcom Corporation. And this paper has put forward the instruction about how to reconstruct Henan Netcom's broadband IP network, and proposed the detailed configuration plan of several key VPN business in the system.
