Library service ethics is an important component of the library ethics. In the library occupation activities, Service is the key of library development and library values. All works in the library must incarnate its existence value through the service finally. The research point is established on this understanding foundation. The paper discusses ethics questions in the library service activities.The first part discusses the research significance of library service ethics, current situation and basic methods. It is a philosophical grasp for the society development trends and time spirits to research library service ethics. Researches about the occupation behavior, the orientation of libraries and relationship between the library and reader in the service activities from the angle of ethics can offer theoretical support for the fact that sets up deep ethics support and spiritual support in sustainable development of the library. Based on the developing history of the library and the outstanding thoughts of library service ethics, the thesis divides the developing stage of library service ethics into the ancient library period, the modern library period, and the contemporary library period. In the ancient library period, the library service takes on the characteristics of unreasonable, unequal and inhuman. In the modern library period, the modern public library set up in Britain and then got quickly development in America and Europe. The thought of "Freedom, equality, and universal fraternity" which was put forward during the period of the rising of capitalism, permeated the library profession and has formed new library service philosophy, namely pursuing "everyone is equal" . It is undoubtedly a more enormous progress than library service ethics in the ancient library period. The library codes of ethics which has been issued, and the documents about cognition of reader and freedom of reading have been formulated, etc. is the main characteristic of the modern library service ethics. People's understanding of the library service which is more rational rises to a higher level in theory.The third part generalizes the phenomenon of ethics problems in the library service activities, especially analyses the formulating and enforcing of reader rules and regulations from the angle of ethics. The ethics problem in the service activity is mainly to deviate from such ethics value as the fairness, public benefits, etc. in the course of offering the service of using public resources. The deviation of library service ethics commits serious challenge to the library cause. The main reasons of the deviation include the loss of the professional ethics value, the lack of strong supervision and restriction mechanism, and existing problem on management system, and the different employee's qualities, and so on.The fourth part investigates the condition of the cognition of library service ethics, practice and formulation of service ethics codes through the questionary investigation and network browsing. The thesis proposes the principles and concrete measures of the library ethics construction. The basic points and goals of ethics construction of the library service should be defined. Good developing environment of the service ethics construction should be created. The norm of feasible service ethics should be concreted.
